HOUSTON, Texas – Houston police have arrested and charged a fifth suspect in the fatal shooting of an 18-year-old man at an apartment complex in the Willowbrook area last year.

The suspect, Aniyah Sonya Martinez, 20, has been charged with capital murder in the 176th Criminal District Court, according to the Houston Police Department. The shooting occurred around 2:10 p.m. on March 1, 2025, at an apartment complex located at 8301 Willow Place Drive.

The victim had been identified as Miguel “Mickey” Gonzalez Jr., 18.

Three other suspects, J’lon Dakarai Griffin, 19, Andres Garcia, 20, and Joshua Richards, 17, are also charged with capital murder in the 176th and 185th Criminal District Courts. An additional 16-year-old male suspect was referred to Harris County Juvenile Probation authorities on a capital murder charge. Juvenile suspects are not publicly identified.

According to investigators, Houston police patrol officers responded to reports of a shooting and found Gonzalez unresponsive in the apartment complex courtyard with multiple gunshot wounds. Houston Fire Department paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene.

Police said two additional males with gunshot wounds were transported to a nearby hospital by private vehicle and were listed in stable condition. One of the injured individuals was later identified as Garcia.

A preliminary investigation determined Gonzalez was lured to the apartment complex under the belief that he was purchasing items from the suspects. Upon arrival, investigators said he was robbed at gunpoint and shot.

Garcia, Richards, and the juvenile suspect were identified early in the investigation and were arrested and charged on March 28, 2025. Griffin was later identified as a suspect and arrested on June 3, 2025. Martinez was identified as a fifth suspect on Jan. 31, 2026, and was subsequently charged and booked into the Harris County Jail.

The case remains under investigation by the Houston Police Department Homicide Division. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or provide anonymous tips to Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
