Fatal Pedestrian Crash on I-45 Leads to DWI Arrest of Driver Who Hit Investigating Patrol Car

A deadly auto-pedestrian crash on I-45 near FM 1960 Sunday night was followed by a separate incident where a suspected drunk driver struck a patrol vehicle investigating the original crash.
According to law enforcement, around 10 p.m., a Chevy Tahoe traveling southbound on I-45 near FM 1960 struck an adult Hispanic man attempting to cross the freeway. The female driver of the Tahoe immediately turned around and called 911. The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene by EMS after being struck once. The driver and her adult son, who was also in the vehicle, were not injured.
Later, around 1 a.m., while deputies were investigating the fatal pedestrian crash with their rear lights activated, their patrol car, occupied by Harris County Sheriff’s Office Deputies Orrson and Soliz, was struck from behind by a minivan. The driver of the minivan was identified as 51-year-old Leslie King.
All three individuals involved in the secondary collision were transported to local hospitals and are expected to recover. The deputies were released after being evaluated as a precaution, while King was admitted for minor pain. Authorities have stated that Leslie King will be charged with DWI (Driving While Intoxicated).
