Fatal Parking Dispute in Houston to Go Before Grand Jury

The fatal shooting of 31-year-old Abdul Waziri following a parking dispute on April 27 will be referred to a Harris County grand jury for review, the Houston Police Department (HPD) Homicide Division announced.
At approximately 9:15 p.m. on April 27, HPD officers responded to a shooting in progress in an apartment complex parking lot at 3400 Ocee Street. They found Waziri lying next to a white Toyota Camry with multiple gunshot wounds. He was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
During their investigation, officers were approached by a 31-year-old male who identified himself as the shooter. He explained that he and Waziri had been arguing over parking. Officers retrieved the firearm and took the man’s statement. After consulting with the Harris County District Attorney’s Office, the man was released as the investigation continued.
Following further investigation, detectives presented their findings to the District Attorney’s Office, which determined the case would be referred to a grand jury. A grand jury will now decide if there is sufficient probable cause to issue an indictment and proceed with criminal charges.
