Fatal Downtown Houston Crash: Speeding Tesla Collides with Stopped Vehicle

Houston police are investigating a fatal crash that occurred at 1400 Jefferson Street on Sunday (January 7) around 11:20 p.m.

A 42-year-old male, yet to be identified, lost his life in the incident.

The driver of a black Tesla S was traveling eastbound on Jefferson at a high speed when he lost control of the vehicle. The Tesla collided with a gray Toyota Highlander, which was stationary at a red light on Jefferson at the intersection with La Branch.

After the impact, the Tesla proceeded through the intersection, left the roadway, and collided with the concrete wall of a parking garage. The driver of the Tesla was pronounced dead at the scene by Houston Fire Department paramedics.

The passenger in the Tesla was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Both the driver and the passenger in the Toyota emerged unharmed.

The Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences is pending notification to family members for the identity of the deceased. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
