Fatal Crash on South Loop West Under Investigation

Houston police are investigating a fatal crash that occurred around 5 p.m. on Tuesday (March 11) at 4600 South Loop West (South Interstate Highway 610 West).

According to the Houston Police Department’s Vehicular Crimes Division, a 51-year-old man was driving a black Hyundai Tucson eastbound in the westbound lanes of the freeway. The Hyundai collided with a black Volkswagen Atlas traveling westbound. In an attempt to avoid the crash, a gray Chevrolet Trax swerved to the right and struck the shoulder barricade.

Paramedics pronounced the Hyundai driver deceased at the scene. Three people in the Volkswagen — ages 32, 6, and 5 — along with the Chevrolet’s 53-year-old female driver, were transported to area hospitals. All are reported to be in stable condition.

The identity of the deceased man is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences. The investigation is ongoing.
