Escaped Grimes County Inmate Captured in Houston by U.S. Marshals Task Force

At approximately 1:34 p.m. on June 3, 2025, escaped Grimes County inmate McArthur Deashy Mathis was taken into custody in Houston near IH 45 and West Road by the U.S. Marshals Gulf Coast Violent Offenders & Fugitive Task Force.

Mathis had escaped from the Cross Creek Psychiatric and Addiction Hospital in Austin prior to his capture. Following the arrest, he is being transported back to the Grimes County Jail by members of the Grimes County Sheriff’s Office Investigation and Patrol Division.

The arrest was the result of coordinated efforts between the Austin Police Department, the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force in Austin, and investigators from the Grimes County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities also acknowledged the role of media outlets and Crime Stoppers in the Houston and Austin areas, stating that public awareness and tips contributed to Mathis’s successful apprehension.
