El Paso Police Officer Wounded, Suspect Killed in Family Violence Call Shooting

A 35-year-old El Paso man, Salvador Valdiviezo, was killed and an El Paso Police officer was wounded in an officer-involved shooting that occurred after officers responded to a family violence in progress call in the 6400 block of Passo Via.

According to reports, as officers approached the residence, Valdiviezo began firing a handgun toward them. Both officers returned fire, striking Valdiviezo multiple times. He was transported to the hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.

One officer sustained a gunshot wound and was transported to the hospital, where they are reported to be in stable condition. Both officers involved are two-year veterans of the El Paso Police Department.

The incident is currently under investigation by the Crimes Against Persons unit, along with the Texas Rangers and the Internal Affairs Shooting Review Team.
