EL PASO, TX – Deputies in El Paso arrested a man early on January 4, 2026, after a crash on Interstate 10 eastbound put his children and others at risk.

At approximately 4:42 a.m., deputies responded to a two-vehicle crash near mile marker 39. Upon arrival, they identified one driver, 26-year-old Tyrese Riley, as showing clear signs of intoxication. Riley had two young children in the vehicle at the time, ages 3 and 6.

Riley was taken into custody and charged with Driving While Intoxicated with a Child Under 15 Years of Age. Deputies also confirmed that Riley had nine outstanding traffic warrants. A breath test later revealed a blood alcohol concentration of 0.12, well over the Texas legal limit of 0.08.

Riley was booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility with bond set at $10,000 personal recognizance for the DWI with a child charge.

“Driving while intoxicated is dangerous on its own, but putting children in harm’s way makes this incident especially troubling,” said Sheriff Oscar Ugarte. “We will continue to hold impaired drivers accountable and work to keep our roadways safe for everyone.”
