Driver Killed in Fiery Crash After Evading Police in West Houston

Houston police are investigating a fatal crash that occurred around 9:20 p.m. on Sunday, June 1, at 8900 Westheimer Road. A 55-year-old male suspect was killed after his vehicle, a red Cadillac DeVille, caught fire following a collision. His identity is pending notification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
According to HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant D. Hall and Officer N. Duval, officers with the Memorial Villages Police Department attempted to stop the Cadillac on Gessner for a traffic violation. The driver fled, running multiple red lights. Although Memorial Villages police ceased their pursuit, the suspect continued to flee.
The Cadillac subsequently ran a red light at Gessner and Westheimer, striking another vehicle before continuing eastbound on Westheimer. The suspect then ran another red light on Westheimer, colliding with a white Ford Crown Victoria. The impact caused the Cadillac to crash into a nearby parking lot, where it then caught fire.
Responding paramedics pronounced the suspect deceased at the scene. The driver and passenger of the Ford Crown Victoria sustained minor, non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to a local hospital.
The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
