Driver Charged With Intoxication Manslaughter After Woman Killed in Houston Hit-and-Run

HOUSTON, Texas – Houston police officers have arrested a 27-year-old man in connection with a fatal auto-pedestrian crash that killed a woman late Sunday night in the city’s Midtown area.

According to the Houston Police Department, the crash occurred around 11:30 p.m. on Feb. 1 at 2400 Pierce Street. The suspect, Enrique Acevedo Barocio, is charged with intoxication manslaughter in the 497th Criminal District Court.

Investigators said a blue Ford Expedition was traveling eastbound at a high rate of speed when the driver struck a female pedestrian who was crossing the street. The vehicle also hit several parked cars before coming to a stop.

Houston Fire Department paramedics responded to the scene and pronounced the pedestrian dead. The victim was a 32-year-old woman. Her identity has not yet been released pending notification of next of kin by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

Police said the driver showed signs of intoxication at the scene. After consultation with the Harris County District Attorney’s Office, Acevedo Barocio was charged and transported to the Harris County Jail.

The investigation was conducted by the Houston Police Department Vehicular Crimes Division.
