The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), operating under Operation Lone Star in collaboration with federal authorities, seized over 2,000 pounds of methamphetamine during a commercial vehicle inspection at the Pharr Port of Entry in Hidalgo County on Monday, June 9, 2025. The illicit narcotics have an estimated street value of more than $2.4 million.

Around 4:00 p.m., DPS Special Agents responded to a request for assistance from U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Agents. CBP Agents had conducted an initial inspection of a gray 2012 Freightliner truck tractor and suspected the driver of smuggling narcotics.

During a secondary inspection, DPS Special Agents discovered a false compartment within the vehicle’s trailer. Inside this hidden compartment, agents found more than 390 bundles of methamphetamine.

DPS Special Agents adopted the case and arrested the driver, Luis Fernando Sarinana Matias, 28, of Reynosa, Mexico. He has been charged with possession of a controlled substance. The seizure marks a significant disruption to drug trafficking operations at the Texas border.
