Dickinson Man Arrested After High-Speed Chase, Charged with Evading Arrest and Assaulting Deputy
Steven Joseph Jr

League City Police officers have arrested 21-year-old Steven Joseph, Jr., of Dickinson, on charges of Evading Arrest/Detention with a Vehicle and Aggravated Assault Against a Public Servant, each carrying a $75,000 bond.

On August 31, 2024, around 1:05 a.m., Officer Turcios of the League City Police Department observed a red Dodge Charger speeding and committing other traffic violations while driving southbound in the 300 block of N IH 45. Officer Turcios attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle, but the driver, later identified as Steven Joseph, increased his speed, prompting Officer Turcios to initiate a pursuit. The chase continued through Dickinson, Texas City, and back into Dickinson.

During the pursuit, a Galveston County Sheriff’s Office deputy was out of her patrol vehicle with emergency lights activated, attempting to set up spike strips on Deats Rd near Oklahoma St. The Dodge swerved toward the deputy, driving eastbound in the westbound lanes, allegedly in an attempt to assault or intimidate her. The vehicle then swerved back into the correct lane of travel.

The chase concluded when the Dodge came to an abrupt stop in front of a residence in the 2500 block of Ave D in Dickinson. Joseph exited the vehicle and led officers on a foot chase, during which he jumped a fence and temporarily evaded capture. Officers from the Dickinson Police Department and deputies from the Galveston County Sheriff’s Office assisted in setting up a perimeter and conducting a search, which included the use of a drone from the Dickinson Police Department. The drone located Joseph on a rooftop in the 2800 block of 26th St. He complied with officers’ commands to come down and was taken into custody without further incident.

The Dodge Charger was towed to the League City Police Department for seizure processing.
