Deputy Hospitalized After Exposure to Substance During Traffic Stop in Atascocita; Suspect Arrested

ATASCOCITA, TX – A deputy with Harris County Constable Mark Herman’s Office was hospitalized after being exposed to a white powdery substance during a traffic stop that escalated into a brief pursuit on December 5, 2025.

The incident began when a deputy attempted to stop a vehicle in the 16800 block of Ramsay Cascades Drive in Atascocita. The driver refused to pull over and led deputies on a short vehicle chase. The suspect eventually stopped in the driveway of a residence, where he was detained without further incident.

Deputies identified the driver as 54-year-old Ferron Rushion, who showed multiple signs of intoxication. After Rushion performed several Standardized Field Sobriety Tests, deputies determined he was intoxicated.

While assisting at the scene, one deputy was exposed to a white powdery substance found inside the suspect’s vehicle. According to officials, the deputy soon lost consciousness multiple times, prompting urgent aid from colleagues. Deputies administered several doses of Narcan before EMS arrived. The injured deputy was transported to a local hospital and is listed in stable condition.

Rushion was arrested and booked into the Harris County Jail on charges of Evading in a Motor Vehicle and Driving While Intoxicated. His total bond was set at $5,100 out of County Court 14 and the 248th District Court.
