Deputies Fatally Shoot Knife-Wielding Suspect at Houston Metro Rail Platform

HOUSTON, Texas – Houston police are investigating the fatal shooting of a male suspect by Harris County Sheriff’s Office deputies Wednesday evening, January 28th, at a Metro light rail platform in north Houston.
According to the Houston Police Department, the incident occurred around 6:30 p.m. in the 7800 block of Fulton Street. Deputies with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office were working at the platform when a female passenger approached them and reported that a man was exposing himself on the light rail cars.
Deputies attempted to detain the suspect as he exited the train, but investigators say he refused to comply with verbal commands and tried to flee. During the encounter, the suspect produced a knife and cut one of the deputies.
Both deputies then discharged their service weapons, striking the suspect. He was transported to an area hospital, where he was pronounced deceased. His identity is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
The injured deputy was also taken to a hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
As required when a law enforcement officer discharges a weapon within Houston city limits, the incident is being investigated by HPD’s Special Investigations Unit. The investigation remains ongoing.
