Collision on E Parmer Lane Claims Bicyclist’s Life; Teen Driver Arrested on Drug Charges and Hit-and-Run

In the early hours of Tuesday, December 12, 2023, tragedy struck on E Parmer Lane as Austin Police Department (APD) officers responded to a collision involving two vehicles and a bicycle in the 5600 block. The bicyclist, identified as 31-year-old Ashton Hutchison, lost his life at the scene.

The incident occurred around 1:33 a.m., prompting immediate response from APD. According to preliminary findings, one of the drivers involved remained at the scene and is cooperating with the ongoing investigation. However, the other driver, later identified as 19-year-old Alexis Acevedo, left the scene but was subsequently apprehended.

Acevedo faces charges of possession of a controlled substance and failure to stop and render aid. The investigation is still underway, and the statements provided are based on the initial assessment of the fatal crash. Fatality information is subject to change as the investigation progresses.

This unfortunate event marks the 87th fatal crash in Austin for 2023, resulting in a total of 90 fatalities so far this year. In comparison, on the same date in 2022, there were 104 fatal crashes leading to 108 deaths.
