Child Sex Offender Receives 30-Year Sentence in Grimes County
Melvin Boldin

On Wednesday, December 11, 2024, Melvin Leon Boldin, age 63, pleaded guilty to Indecency with a Child.

The investigation began on July 4, 2022, when the Navasota Police Department received a report of child sexual abuse. Investigator Travis Mullins led the investigation, interviewing witnesses and gathering evidence.

A male child reported that while sleeping at a residence in Navasota, Melvin Boldin fondled his genitals. An adult witness confirmed observing Boldin lying beside the child and reacting suspiciously when she entered the room.

Chief Investigator John Wren, with the District Attorney’s Office, assisted in the investigation by interviewing Boldin. During the interview, Boldin made incriminating statements, acknowledging the child’s honesty.

Boldin was charged with Indecency with a Child, a second-degree felony. Due to his prior felony convictions, prosecutors faced an enhanced punishment range of up to life in prison.

On Wednesday, January 22, 2025, Judge Gary Chaney sentenced Melvin Boldin to 30 years in prison as part of a plea agreement reached with Assistant District Attorney Meagan Ghormley.

Boldin is currently in the custody of the Grimes County Jail awaiting transfer to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.

“Melvin Boldin preyed on a young boy and today he was held accountable,” stated Assistant District Attorney Meagan Ghormley. “I am grateful for a satisfactory resolution that kept the victim from having to testify. Investigator Mullins and Chief Investigator Wren did outstanding work in this investigation, which gave our office the evidence to obtain a conviction. Well done to both!”
