Child Custody Dispute Leads to Gunfire Exchange in Cypress Neighborhood

Cypress, TX — A child custody dispute escalated into a gunfire exchange between a vehicle and a homeowner Tuesday in a Cypress neighborhood, according to Constable Terry Allbritton’s Office.
Deputies responded on March 10, 2026, to reports of gunshots in the 19800 block of Mallard Point Court. Multiple callers reported shots being fired between a residence and a vehicle.
Deputies and Precinct 5 detectives arrived on scene, detained the individuals involved, and secured the area.
Investigators determined the incident began as a child custody dispute. During the confrontation, authorities say the driver of the vehicle began firing shots toward the residence.
The homeowner returned fire in what investigators believe was self-defense.
No injuries were reported in the incident.
The Harris County District Attorney’s Office reviewed the case and accepted a charge of Aggravated Assault against the driver of the vehicle. The suspect was arrested and transported to jail.
The investigation remains ongoing.
