Charges Filed Against Suspect in Fatal Shooting at San Jacinto Street Convenience Store in Houston

Charges have been filed against Jahdari Hatton, 24, in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred on Monday, July 31, at a convenience store on 2111 San Jacinto Street. The incident resulted in the death of 26-year-old Jonathan Pettway and the injury of another individual.

Hatton is now facing charges of murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in the 337th State District Court. The suspect’s involvement came to light during the course of an intensive investigation by the Houston Police Department Homicide Division.

According to the preliminary report, officers responded to the convenience store after receiving a report of a shooting incident. Upon arrival, they discovered a male victim, later identified as Jonathan Pettway, suffering from gunshot wounds. The Houston Fire Department paramedics promptly rushed Pettway to Ben Taub General Hospital, but tragically, he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

Additionally, another male victim was found at the scene with a graze wound. He was treated by medical personnel at the scene and subsequently released.

The investigation revealed that a confrontation erupted inside the convenience store, eventually leading to the suspect producing a firearm and indiscriminately firing multiple rounds. Both Pettway and the second male victim were struck by the gunfire, leading to Pettway’s untimely death.

The authorities were able to establish Jahdari Hatton as the prime suspect in the case through their diligent efforts. On August 3, 2023, charges were formally brought against him for his alleged involvement in the incident. However, Hatton remains at large, prompting the authorities to seek public assistance in locating and apprehending him.
