Chain-Reaction Crash on North Freeway Leaves One Woman Dead

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas – A woman was killed early Sunday morning following a multi-vehicle crash on the North Freeway after her disabled car was struck by several vehicles, authorities said.

According to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, the crash occurred around 2:25 a.m. on December 28, 2025, in the 14500 block of the North Freeway. Investigators said an unidentified female driver was traveling northbound in lane two in a blue Honda Fit when the vehicle became disabled after suffering a blown tire, leaving it stopped in an active lane of traffic.

A blue Jeep Wrangler, driven by Mercedes Shackelford and also traveling northbound in lane two, was unable to avoid the disabled vehicle and struck the rear of the Honda Fit. The impact caused the Jeep to roll onto its side.

Following the initial collision, the Honda Fit spun counterclockwise and entered lane one, where it was struck by a northbound Mercedes-Benz driven by Derrick King. Moments later, the Honda Fit was struck again by a Toyota Camry traveling in lane two and operated by Alexis Robinson.

Harris County Emergency Corps EMS responded to the scene and determined the driver of the Honda Fit showed no signs of life at approximately 2:47 a.m. She was pronounced deceased at the scene. Her identity has not been released pending notification of next of kin.

The Harris County Sheriff’s Office Vehicular Crimes Division is continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
