In a recent announcement, CenterPoint Energy revealed a significant contribution of $1 million in honor of Mayor Sylvester Turner to aid low-income residents with energy bill assistance across the Greater Houston area. The donation will be directed to the Gulf Coast Community Services Association (GCCSA), a local non-profit organization responsible for managing all aspects of the assistance program, from determining qualified applicants to distributing the funds.

Lesar stated, “Throughout his entire career in elected office, Mayor Turner always recognized the importance of supporting underserved neighborhoods and neighbors, and this contribution in his name will make a positive lasting impact.”

Dr. Jonita Reynolds, CEO of GCCSA, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to collaborate with CenterPoint Energy, highlighting GCCSA’s role as the Community Action Agency authorized by the federal government to provide services to low-income individuals and families in Houston. Reynolds stated, “Through CenterPoint Energy and Mayor Turner’s generosity, we are proud to be able to play an integral part in minimizing the adverse impact of energy poverty on low-income households.”
