Burnet, TX Names Tony Hefferin as New Chief of Police with 26+ Years of Experience

Burnet, TX – The City of Burnet has officially welcomed Tony Hefferin as its new Chief of Police. With more than 26 years of progressive experience in law enforcement, Chief Hefferin brings a strong record of leadership, community engagement, and a deep commitment to service and integrity.
Chief Hefferin’s philosophy centers on serving with purpose, leading with integrity, and investing in people. His goal is to build meaningful relationships, develop leaders at every level, implement effective systems, and remain focused on the mission of public service.
Before joining Burnet, Chief Hefferin served in the United States Navy from 1993 to 1998, separating honorably at the rank of E-4. He began his law enforcement career in Fort Bend County, Texas, working as a Corrections Officer and later as a Patrol Deputy from 1998 to 2004.
In 2004, he joined the Bellaire Police Department, where he served in multiple capacities, including Patrol Officer, Special Response Team Operator, Team Leader, Team Commander, Honor Guard Sergeant, Patrol Sergeant, and Patrol Lieutenant. He later became Divisional Commander for the Uniformed Services, Support Services, and Administrative Services Divisions. Throughout his career, Chief Hefferin emphasized professionalism, operational readiness, and community service.
Hefferin holds a Bachelor’s degree in Organizational Leadership from the University of Charleston and completed leadership programs at the University of Virginia’s Weldon Cooper Center for Public Service, the Texas Police Chiefs Association, and the Institute for Law Enforcement Administration. During his training at the Texas Command Leadership Academy, he was recognized by his peers with the Professionalism Award.
