Brownsville Caretaker Sentenced to 25 Years in Death of Disabled Teen
Mauricio Noe Garza

Mauricio Noe Garza was sentenced to 25 years in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice on Monday, June 9, 2025, after pleading guilty to Injury to a Disabled Person with Intent to Cause Serious Bodily Injury, a first-degree felony.

Garza’s conviction stems from the death of 15-year-old Cameron Brewington, a non-verbal autistic teenager who was under his care. A Brownsville Police Department investigation revealed that Garza restrained Brewington by binding his wrists, ankles, and neck with rope and a dog collar, leaving him tied to a mattress for prolonged periods.

The investigation also found that Garza inflicted severe blunt force trauma to Brewington’s body. According to the medical examiner, the teen died from organ failure caused by the trauma and extended immobilization.

The case was prosecuted by Cameron County Assistant District Attorneys Andre Benavides, Jacqueline Morales, and Marcos Saldivar, with assistance from Investigators Mayra Marin and Crime Victim’s Advocate Ruth Medina. Brownsville Police conducted the investigation.
