Brazoria County Mother Arrested After Shooting Leaves Two Children Dead

BRAZORIA COUNTY, TX — On October 4, 2025, at approximately 4:48 a.m., Brazoria County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a shooting involving multiple children.
Investigators determined that the driver, 31-year-old Oninda Romelus, the mother of the four children, is the suspected shooter. All four children sustained gunshot wounds. Tragically, a 13-year-old boy and 3-year-old girl were pronounced dead at the scene. The 8-year-old boy and 9-year-old girl were flown to a Houston-area hospital and remain in stable condition.
The shooting is believed to have occurred inside the vehicle. Deputies immediately began providing lifesaving aid until medical personnel arrived. Officials credit the quick response of deputies with saving at least one child’s life.
Romelus was arrested and charged with:
- Two counts of Murder
- Two counts of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon
Her total bond was set at $14 million. Romelus, a resident of Montgomery County, is under investigation with the assistance of the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office.
