Blaze Engulfs West Clay Street Duplex; Firefighter Injured in Response

A duplex in the 400 block of West Clay Street (77019) caught fire on November 20, 2023, at 6:22 p.m. Firefighters responded promptly, arriving within three minutes of the incident.

The 2-story duplex sustained significant damage, with an estimated $150,000 in losses. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.

In the course of the firefighting efforts, one firefighter sustained an injury to the knee and was transported to the hospital for medical attention. The extent of the injuries is not known at this time.

A total of 53 personnel from various Houston Fire Department stations, including Stations 8, 33, 15, 6, 7, 11, 29, 15, 30, Heavy Rescue 11, and Rescue 42, were dispatched to the scene. Fire crews successfully extinguished the fire and addressed hotspots in the attic. Additionally, utilities were secured to ensure safety.

The Houston Fire Department’s Arson investigators have been called in to determine the cause and origin of the fire.
