Blanson CTE High School in Aldine Earns Bronze Distinction on 2023 AP School Honor Roll
Aldine ISD’s Blanson Career and Technical Education High School has achieved the prestigious Bronze distinction on the 2023 AP School Honor Roll, as announced by the College Board. The AP School Honor Roll recognizes schools that excel in delivering positive outcomes for students through their Advanced Placement (AP) programs while also expanding access to these opportunities.
Principal Ben Ibarra expressed his immense pride in this achievement, saying, “We are immensely proud to receive the Bronze Distinction on the 2023 AP School Honor Roll. These achievements are a testament to the dedication of our students, teachers, and staff who continuously strive for excellence in education. Our commitment to fostering a college-going culture and providing equitable access to AP coursework remains unwavering. We firmly believe in every student’s potential for success and are committed to helping them achieve it here at Blanson.”
To earn a place on the 2023 AP School Honor Roll, schools must meet or exceed the criteria for three essential metrics: College Culture, College Credit, and College Optimization. Blanson CTE High School demonstrated impressive performance, scoring 56% for a Silver rating in College Culture, 27% for a Bronze rating in College Credit, and 5% for a Silver rating in College Optimization, resulting in an overall Bronze Recognition status.
The evaluation process includes assessing the percentage of students in the graduating class who have taken an AP exam at any point in high school, the percentage of students who have scored 3 or higher on an AP exam, and the percentage of students who have taken five or more AP exams during high school, with at least one in 9th or 10th grade.
In addition to achieving the Bronze Distinction, Blanson CTE High School also received the 2023 AP Access Award. This additional recognition is a testament to the school’s unwavering commitment to making AP coursework accessible to all students, regardless of their backgrounds or circumstances. The school is dedicated to ensuring that every student has the opportunity to pursue advanced coursework and succeed in their educational journey.
Principal Ibarra commended the school’s dedication, saying, “Blanson CTE High School’s honor of the Bronze Distinction is a remarkable achievement that reflects the exceptional education our students receive. We are proud of our steadfast commitment to academic excellence and equal access to educational opportunities.”
