Baytown Prisoner Escapes During Transfer, Recaptured Hours Later by Metro Police
At approximately noon on Thursday, December 5, a 22-year-old prisoner, Daniel Douglas, escaped custody while being transported to the Harris County Joint Processing Center. Douglas, a Baytown resident, fled the sally port area as the vehicle gate was opened to allow another law enforcement vehicle to depart.
Douglas was last seen wearing a black t-shirt, gray sweatpants with red stripes on the knee area, and black tennis shoes. He is described as a Black male, 5’10”, approximately 180 lbs., with brown eyes and short black hair.
Following the escape, Harris County authorities established a command post and initiated a search with assistance from Baytown Police officers and the Special Investigations Division. Douglas, who was originally charged with aggravated assault in a family violence case, was considered a concern for public safety due to the violent nature of the charges against him.
After several hours, Metro Police located and apprehended Douglas, returning him to custody. The Baytown Police Department has added an escape charge to his record.
