Baytown Police Investigating Self-Inflicted Shooting at Bayland Park

Baytown, TX – The Baytown Police Department is investigating a self-inflicted shooting that occurred at Bayland Park, located in the 2600 block of Business Highway 146, following a welfare check related to a mental health concern.

According to the department, Baytown officers were requested by a neighboring law enforcement agency to conduct the welfare check. When officers arrived at the park, they made contact with the individual, who then sustained a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Officers immediately began providing lifesaving medical aid until personnel from the Baytown Fire Department arrived. The individual was transported to a Houston-area hospital for further treatment.

The investigation remains ongoing. Due to the sensitive nature of the incident, police have not identified the individual and are withholding details about his current condition. The department stated that updates will be provided when appropriate.
