Austin Police Asking for Help Identifying Vehicle in Fatal Hit-and-Run Incident

Austin Police Department’s Vehicular Homicide Unit is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying a suspect vehicle involved in a fatal crash that occurred on Tuesday, August 27, 2024, at approximately 1:04 a.m. The incident took place in the 700 block of East Ben White, near the Murphy’s gas station in South Austin.

The victim, 38-year-old Michael Schoenherr, was struck by a vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene. The suspect vehicle did not stop and fled the scene immediately after the crash.

Investigators are asking anyone with information about the incident to contact the APD Vehicular Homicide Unit at 512-974-8111. Tips may also be submitted anonymously through the Capital Area Crime Stoppers Program at austincrimestoppers.org or by calling 512-472-8477. A reward of up to $1,000 is available for information that leads to an arrest.
