Austin Police Arrest Suspect of Two Weekend Shootings, Including One at Central Library

On Saturday, October 25, 2025, at approximately 1:30 a.m., Austin Police Department (APD) officers responded to reports of a shooting in the 3200 block of Guadalupe Street. When officers arrived, they located a victim suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim told officers the suspect had fled south on Guadalupe Street. Officers searched the area but were unable to locate the suspect.
Later that day, at approximately 12:06 p.m., officers responded to another shooting, this time at the Austin Central Library located at 710 W. Cesar Chavez Street. Officers arrived to find one victim with an apparent gunshot wound. The victim was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Officers cleared the library and determined the suspect had fled the scene immediately after the shooting, boarding a CapMetro bus. Through witness statements and investigative work, officers were able to identify the suspect as 59-year-old Harold N. Keene.
Keene was later located inside a business at a shopping center in the 4006 block of South Lamar Boulevard. He was taken into custody without incident and booked into the Travis County Jail. Keene is charged with one count of Aggravated Assault related to the library shooting, and two counts of Aggravated Assault and one count of Deadly Conduct connected to the earlier incident on Guadalupe Street.
Both victims were transported to local hospitals and are expected to recover.
APD thanked the community for providing tips and assistance, as well as partner agencies that supported officers during the investigation.
