Austin Police Arrest Suspect in New Year’s Day Shooting That Killed 18-Year-Old

AUSTIN, Texas – Austin police have arrested a 19-year-old man in connection with the shooting death of 18-year-old Isaiah Atkinson on New Year’s Day.

The shooting occurred shortly after 1 a.m. on Thursday, January 1, at an event center in the 7800 block of N. Lamar Blvd. Officers responding to a report of a person shot found Atkinson with trauma to his chest. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 1:45 a.m.

Investigators said Atkinson had been attending a party at the venue when a disturbance broke out, leading to the fatal shooting. At the time, the suspect was unknown, and police sought help from the public to identify witnesses and review any surveillance footage or videos captured on social media.

On Wednesday, January 7, the U.S. Marshals Lone Star Fugitive Task Force arrested 19-year-old Alton Williams III in Pflugerville. He was charged with first-degree murder in connection with Atkinson’s death and is being held at the Travis County Jail.
