Austin Officers Respond to Machete Attack: Suspect in Custody

On Tuesday, January 9, 2023, at around 9:57 a.m., the Austin Police Department (APD) responded to multiple calls reporting a machete attack in the 200 block of 1st Street. Upon arrival, officers found a victim with apparent stab wounds. The victim was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.

A suspect, identified as 24-year-old Ashton Kaine Talley, is currently in APD custody. Talley was arrested and booked into the Travis County Jail, facing charges of two counts of Aggravated Assault With a Deadly Weapon and one count of Evading Arrest.

UPDATE: The victim’s condition is reported to be stable.
