Armed Robbery Suspect Fatally Shot by Houston Police After Pursuit

Houston police are investigating the fatal shooting of a 34-year-old armed robbery suspect by officers at 8800 Aspen Meadow Drive around 7:25 p.m. on Sunday, August 10.

Officers were searching for the suspect in connection with multiple aggravated robberies when they located a vehicle matching the description. A traffic stop was attempted, but the suspect briefly stopped, questioned the reason, then fled, prompting a pursuit.

The suspect stopped at the Aspen Meadow address and exited the vehicle carrying two firearms. Despite repeated verbal commands to drop the weapons, the suspect raised one firearm toward officers. Seven officers discharged their weapons, striking the suspect multiple times. He was pronounced dead at the scene after officers rendered aid.

No officers were injured during the incident.

The involved officers—Sergeant L. Chaney and Officers J. Grawe, R. Vasquez, Q. Nguyen, R. Carballo, M. Meola, and N. Jaramillo—are assigned to the Westside and South Gessner Patrol Divisions.

The case is under investigation by the HPD Special Investigations Unit, Internal Affairs Division, and the Harris County District Attorney’s Office. The suspect’s identity is pending confirmation by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
