Armed Robbery at Time Max Convenience Store in Chambers County Results in One Victim Shot

On Saturday, July 27, 2024, at approximately 9:25 P.M., Chambers County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to an armed robbery in progress at the Time Max convenience store located at 16160 East IH-10 frontage road in the Cove area of Chambers County.

Upon arrival, deputies discovered one victim had been shot during the robbery. Deputies quickly coordinated a search for the suspect vehicle, which was located shortly after. Following a brief pursuit, a suspect was detained and taken into custody.

The investigation is ongoing, with deputies, detectives, and crime scene personnel currently on the scene. Further information will be released once the condition of the victim is known and detectives gather more details about the incident.

UPDATE: On July 27, 2024, at approximately 9:25 P.M., Chambers County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to an aggravated robbery at the TimeMax convenience store located at 16160 East IH-10 frontage road in the Cove area. Upon arrival, deputies discovered that store clerk Ginny Bagby had suffered a critical gunshot wound during the robbery. Emergency Medical Services and deputies initiated CPR, and Bagby was transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries.

Chambers County deputies quickly began searching for the suspect based on witness information from a customer present during the robbery. Shortly after, deputies located the suspect vehicle and a brief vehicle pursuit ensued. The driver, identified as Todd Carter from the Houston area, was taken into custody.

Detectives from the Criminal Investigation Division and the Crime Scene Unit responded to the scene. Carter was booked into the Chambers County Jail on charges of Capital Murder and is being held without bond by Precinct 4 Justice of the Peace Blake Sylvia.

The investigation is ongoing, with detectives working alongside other agencies to determine if additional crimes occurred outside of Chambers County’s jurisdiction. Sheriff Brian Hawthorne expressed gratitude to the multiple witnesses, including those from Beaumont, who assisted in the investigation.

“Our deepest condolences go out to the family of the victim. We are thankful that witnesses came forward with information to help us bring this violent offender into our custody,” said Sheriff Hawthorne.
