Argument Between Cousins Turns Deadly in Austin

An incident unfolded in Austin in the early hours of Monday, October 16, 2023, when Austin Police Department (APD) Officers responded to a distress call at the 2200 block of E Riverside Drive, reporting an unresponsive man at approximately 1:26 a.m.

Upon arrival at the scene, officers discovered 28-year-old Jader Francisco Tinoco-Salgado with gunshot wounds. Despite immediate medical attention, Tinoco-Salgado was pronounced dead shortly after the discovery.

Homicide Detectives and Crime Scene Specialists arrived to process the area, commencing a thorough investigation. Preliminary findings from this investigation revealed that the victim had been engaged in a heated argument with his cousin, 35-year-old Elvin Salvador Tinoco-Orosco. The altercation escalated to a violent conclusion, with Tinoco-Orosco allegedly firing the fatal shots.

Elvin Salvador Tinoco-Orosco was taken into custody at the scene by the responding officers and now faces a charge of 1st Degree Felony Murder in connection with the incident.
