Angleton Police Officer Dies in Line of Duty After Funeral Escort Crash

The City of Angleton and the Angleton Police Department have announced the line-of-duty death of Sergeant J.D. White, who passed away on Sunday, June 1, 2025, after being critically injured while escorting a funeral procession.

Sgt. White was struck by a vehicle during the procession and transported by LifeFlight for emergency treatment. Despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries. The Texas Department of Public Safety is leading the crash investigation.

Sgt. White served the Angleton Police Department for 19 years. He held various positions over the course of his career, most recently as Sergeant of Professional Integrity and the department’s Public Information Officer.

Police Chief Lupe Valdez described Sgt. White as “a trusted officer and a compassionate leader” known for his commitment to programs such as Shop with a Cop and his strong connection to the community.

Funeral arrangements and public service details will be announced at a later date. The Angleton Police Department has asked the public to keep Sgt. White’s family and colleagues in their thoughts.
