Alleged DUI Crash Leads to Arrests of Driver and Off-Duty Houston Police Officer
Norma Miranda Estrada and Adan Lopez

Early morning on May 18, 2024, deputies from the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office rushed to the scene of a single-vehicle rollover crash at the 22000 block of FM 1314 in Porter. The occupants of the vehicle, already receiving medical attention in an ambulance, were identified as Norma Miranda Estrada, the driver, and Adan Lopez, a passenger who was off-duty from the Houston Police Department.

Upon investigation, authorities determined that Estrada was driving under the influence of alcohol. Consequently, she was arrested for Driving While Intoxicated and taken into custody.

However, the situation escalated when Lopez, the passenger, refused to cooperate with deputies and consistently interfered with the investigation. Consequently, he was arrested for Interfering with Public Duties and Unlawful Carry of a Weapon.

Further inquiry revealed that Estrada had been wearing her seatbelt during the crash, while Lopez had not. Lopez sustained multiple facial injuries in the accident, requiring treatment by EMS before being taken to a local hospital. He was then transported to the Montgomery County Jail, with the Houston Police Department Internal Affairs Division involved in the process.
