Abilene Music Teacher Arrested for Improper Relationship with Former Student
Lawrence Brandt Grigg

On Wednesday, August 21, 2024, the Abilene Police Department arrested 54-year-old Lawrence Brandt Grigg on a Second Degree Felony charge of Improper Relationship Between an Educator and Student.

The investigation began in late July 2024 after the Abilene Independent School District alerted authorities to a potential relationship between Grigg and one of his former students. Electronic evidence and other investigative information led to Grigg’s arrest. The school district had already placed Grigg on administrative leave to support the investigation and ensure student safety.

Grigg, a music instructor at Cooper High School, is currently held at the Taylor County Jail with a $1-million bond. Investigators are seeking additional information and ask anyone with relevant details to contact the police department at 673-8331.

The Abilene Independent School District has been cooperating fully with the investigation.
