El Paso Man Arrested for Machete Assault on Pit Bulls

Abel Gonzalez, 51, a resident of Mission Valley, has been arrested and charged with two counts of cruelty to non-livestock animals, a third-degree felony. According to preliminary investigations, on January 28, 2025, Gonzalez arrived at a residence in Mission Valley to meet the occupant, during which an altercation occurred between Gonzalez and the resident’s two pit bull dogs, named “Scooby” and “Blue.” The suspect left the premises following the incident.
The following day, January 29, Gonzalez returned to the same residence and entered the backyard. There, he was confronted by the two dogs and proceeded to swing a machete at them, striking both animals several times before departing the scene.
On February 14, 2025, law enforcement arrested Gonzalez. He faces two counts of cruelty to non-livestock animals: Kill/Poison/SBI, each charged as a third-degree felony. Judge Ruthledge set bond at $5,000 for each charge.
