Man Arrested After Body Found Along Harris County Roadway
Christopher Bernard

On Wednesday, October 2, 2024, at approximately 8:00 a.m., Harris County Sheriff’s Office patrol units responded to a call in the 100 block of Subsea regarding the discovery of a deceased body. Maintenance workers, while cutting grass along the roadway, found a partially clothed, deceased female, later identified through autopsy as 29-year-old Cortney Hall.

Homicide investigators from the Harris County Sheriff’s Office arrived at the scene and initiated an investigation. It appeared that Hall’s body had been at the location for several days. Investigators reviewed surveillance footage from the area and developed a suspect, 25-year-old Christopher Daniel Bernard.

During an interview with authorities, Bernard admitted to meeting Hall, who had been working as a prostitute. Bernard confessed that an altercation occurred, during which he strangled Hall. He then transported her body from a motel and left it at the site where it was found.

On Friday, October 4, a warrant for murder was issued, and Harris County Sheriff’s Office Violent Criminal Apprehension Team arrested Bernard at his residence without incident.
