Driver Killed, Passenger Hospitalized in South Loop East Crash

Houston police are investigating a fatal crash that occurred at 6600 South Loop East (South Interstate Highway 610 East) around 12:50 a.m. on Sunday, September 1. The identity of the 44-year-old deceased male is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

According to HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant Y. Ramirez and Officer J. Trevino, the driver of a white Chrysler 300 was traveling eastbound on the main lanes of the freeway when, for unknown reasons, the vehicle veered off the roadway and into a grassy median. The Chrysler then rolled over, struck a metal guardrail, and came to a stop overturned near a sidewalk.

Houston Fire Department paramedics responded to the scene and pronounced the driver deceased. The female passenger was transported to an area hospital in stable condition.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
