El Paso Man Arrested for Animal Cruelty After Dog Found with Embedded Chain Collar

The El Paso Police Department’s Animal Cruelty Investigations Unit is investigating an animal cruelty case that occurred on July 16, 2024, in the 1200 block of Airway Blvd. Authorities responded to reports of a dog with a chain collar embedded into the lower part of its neck. The investigation revealed that 27-year-old Devan Gallegos of Northeast El Paso had kept the dog tethered with the chain collar, which had progressively cut into the dog’s neck. The chain collar was removed, and after receiving treatment, the dog was transferred to the Humane Society of El Paso. Gallegos was taken into custody and booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility with a bond set at $10,000.
