Dan Hord Sworn in as New Texas Public Safety Commissioner, Succeeding Dale Wainwright
The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) welcomed Dan Hord as the newest member of the Public Safety Commission (PSC) today. Hord attended his first PSC meeting at DPS Headquarters in Austin. He replaces Dale Wainwright, who left the commission earlier this year after completing his term.
PSC Chairman Steven P. Mach expressed confidence in Hord’s leadership abilities, stating, “Dan Hord is a strong leader who will be a solid addition to the Commission. I look forward to working together in our shared mission of making the Lone Star State safer for everyone.” Mach also acknowledged Wainwright’s contributions, noting, “The future of Texas is brighter because of it.”
Hord commented on his new role, saying, “The Public Safety Commission plays a critical role in the safety and security of Texans by guiding the success of the Texas Department of Public Safety. My fellow Commissioners have already achieved so much, and I am humbled to join them as we continue making Texas a safe place to live, work and raise a family.”
Director Steven McCraw praised Hord’s experience and interest in the agency’s mission, saying, “Commissioner Hord’s experience and keen interest in the mission, vision and values of this agency will be a huge asset to the Commission.” He also thanked Wainwright for his service, stating, “The future we’re heading toward is partly due to the hard work, dedication and commitment of former Commissioner Dale Wainwright.”
Wainwright reflected on his tenure, saying, “I’m proud of the strides our state made in enhancing public safety for every Texan—we’ve come a long way.” He expressed gratitude to Governor Greg Abbott for his appointment, Chairman Mach for his leadership, and his fellow Commissioners and DPS Director McCraw for their dedication.
