Teen Arrested After League City Police Chase Leads to Crash
League City Police Officers have arrested 19-year-old suspect, Anthony Cavazos of Bacliff. Cavazos was arrested and charged with Evading Arrest or Detention with a Vehicle ($40,000 Bond). Additional charges are pending further investigation.
At approximately 7:32 p.m. on Tuesday, April 23, 2024, a League City Police Officer initiated a traffic stop in the 1300 block of S Gulf Fwy, Northbound feeder, after observing a white Toyota Camry with expired registration.
The driver of the Toyota, later identified as Anthony Cavazos, immediately began to increase speed to evade the officer. The Toyota entered the main lanes of IH 45, and then took the NASA Bypass exit. The officer then lost sight of the Toyota.
Shortly after losing sight of the Toyota, officers observed it coming out of a parking lot onto the Northbound feeder and make the U-turn at NASA Bypass to travel back Southbound.
At approximately 7:36 p.m., the Toyota attempted to drive through the intersection at S Gulf Fwy and W Main St, and it collided with a gray Hyundai Tucson. Officers quickly detained Cavazos, while other officers began assisting the two victims (an adult and an 11-year-old child) injured in the Hyundai. All three were later transported by League City Fire Department’s EMS Division to local hospitals for medical evaluation and treatment, with an officer following to be with Cavazos who was detained.
LCPD’s Crash Team Investigators were called to the scene to conduct a thorough collision investigation. An open container of alcohol was observed inside of the Toyota.
The Eastbound lanes of W Main St under the S IH 45 overpass remained closed for nearly four hours after the collision, to complete the collision reconstruction.
Cavazos has been charged with Evading Arrest or Detention with a Vehicle. The investigation is ongoing and additional charges are pending.
