League City Police Arrest Two Suspects Following Vehicle Pursuit and Taser Deployment
League City Police Department has apprehended two suspects following a vehicle pursuit on Monday, March 18, 2024. The suspects, identified as 38-year-old John Cartrette from Hitchcock and 31-year-old Austin Ray from Bacliff, were taken into custody after a series of events unfolded.
At approximately 1:30 p.m., the League City Police Department received notification from the Flock Safety system regarding a stolen maroon Dodge Ram 1500 traveling northbound on S SH 3 from W FM 646. Officers promptly responded to the area and spotted the Dodge on S SH 3 nearing W Main St. Upon attempting to stop the vehicle, the driver, later identified as John Cartrette, initiated a short pursuit on N SH 3 and onto 4th St. Austin Ray, the passenger, exited the vehicle at 4th St and Dallas Ave while Cartrette continued to evade officers.
The Dodge eventually came to a halt in a parking lot at 3rd St and N SH 3. Cartrette fled across N SH 3 with officers in pursuit. Subsequently, officers deployed a Taser to subdue Cartrette, leading to his arrest without further issue. Narcotics were later discovered inside the Dodge.
Meanwhile, other responding officers located Ray on Marshall St near Houston Ave, where he attempted to evade arrest by fleeing on foot. After a brief pursuit, officers successfully apprehended Ray. During the arrest, a handgun was found in Ray’s possession.
Cartrette faces charges including Evading Arrest or Detention with a Vehicle, Possession of Controlled Substance, and Unlawful Use of a Motor Vehicle, alongside warrants from the Brazoria County Sheriff’s Office and the Austin Parole Division, with bonds totaling $260,000. Ray has been charged with Felon in Possession of a Firearm, with bond set at $100,000.
Both suspects are currently in custody as the investigation continues.
