Houston Police Investigate Fatal Crash on East Loop South
Houston police are currently investigating a fatal crash that occurred late Friday night at 1500 East Loop South (East Interstate Highway 610) around 11:35 p.m.
The victim, identified as Rosa Trujillo, aged 45, was driving a silver Honda Accord northbound on the freeway. For reasons yet to be determined, Trujillo failed to maintain her lane and collided with the elevated concrete on the freeway.
The Honda then proceeded to collide with an off-duty Houston police officer’s white Chevrolet Tahoe, which was stationed for traffic control with emergency lights activated within a barricade of cones on the right shoulder of the freeway. Subsequently, the Honda also struck a concrete barrier and a utility trailer.
Houston Fire Department personnel pronounced Trujillo deceased at the scene. A male passenger, also aged 45, who was in the Honda at the time of the accident, was transported to Harris Health Lyndon B. Johnson Hospital with injuries described as non-life-threatening.
No other individuals required transport to medical facilities.
The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash is currently ongoing.
