16-Year-Old Charged With Murder in Fatal Shooting at Meyerland Area Convenience Store

HOUSTON – A 16-year-old has been arrested and charged with murder in connection with the fatal shooting of a 28-year-old man outside a convenience store in Houston’s Meyerland area.

Houston Police said the juvenile was taken into custody without incident Sept. 14 and referred to Harris County juvenile authorities on a murder charge. His name and photograph are not being released because of his age.

The charge stems from the June 21 shooting death of Ismail Ali, 28.

Officers responded around 6:50 p.m. to a shooting at the Quik Food Store at 5402 Birdwood Road.

Police found Ali suffering from a gunshot wound in the store’s parking lot. Houston Fire Department paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene.

Houston Police homicide detectives later identified the 16-year-old as a suspect. Authorities have not disclosed what led investigators to the teenager or released details about what preceded the shooting.

The juvenile was arrested nearly three months after Ali’s death.
