Houston Police Release Sketches, Video of Gunman Who Shot Man During Car Wash Robbery and Fired at Deputy

HOUSTON, Texas – Houston Police have released surveillance video and two composite sketches as investigators continue searching for a gunman accused of shooting a man during a robbery at a car wash and then opening fire on a Harris County deputy constable who pursued him.

The shooting happened at approximately 12:20 p.m. on July 17 at a car wash located at 10890 Sabo Road in the South Belt/Ellington area.

The suspect is described as a young Black male who was wearing a purple hooded sweatshirt and shorts at the time of the shooting.

Police are releasing the new images in hopes someone can identify him.

Victim Shot After Reaching for Wallet

According to Houston Police Robbery Division investigators, a 43-year-old man was at the car wash when the suspect approached him with a pistol and demanded money.

The victim reached toward the door of his vehicle to retrieve his wallet.

Police said the gunman then shot the victim once in the stomach before running from the car wash.

The wounded man was transported to a hospital for treatment. Police did not provide an updated condition.

Gunman Allegedly Opens Fire on Deputy During Escape

A Harris County Precinct 2 deputy constable who was nearby heard the gunfire and drove across the street to investigate.

The uniformed deputy spotted the suspect running from the area and began following him in a law enforcement vehicle with its emergency lights activated.

As the suspect fled on foot, police said he turned and fired multiple rounds at the deputy’s vehicle.

The deputy’s vehicle was struck more than once, but the deputy was not injured.

The gunman continued running and entered a nearby apartment complex, where the deputy eventually lost sight of him.

Despite the subsequent investigation, authorities have not identified or arrested the suspect.

Houston Police Robbery Division Detectives J. Pineda and Officer C. Lee are investigating the case.
