Elderly Pedestrian Dies After Being Struck by Minivan at Southwest Houston Gas Station

HOUSTON, Texas – A 72-year-old man died after being struck by a minivan in the parking lot of a southwest Houston gas station, according to the Houston Police Department.

The fatal crash occurred at approximately 10:40 a.m. on Friday, July 31, in the 9800 block of South Kirkwood Drive.

The Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences identified the victim as Jose Angel Ovalle.

According to investigators with the Houston Police Department Vehicular Crimes Division, a gray Chrysler Pacifica was traveling south through the parking lot of a gas station when the driver turned left to pass between two fuel pumps and struck Ovalle.

Houston Fire Department paramedics transported Ovalle to a nearby hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

Police said the 41-year-old driver stopped immediately after the crash and called 911. After the victim was transported to the hospital, the driver left his contact information with the business owner before leaving the scene. Authorities said he later returned while investigators continued processing the incident.

The Houston Police Department said the investigation remains ongoing.
