Man Wanted After Deadly Chase, Kidnapping and Fatal Shooting in Northwest Houston

HOUSTON, Texas – Harris County Sheriff’s Office homicide detectives are searching for a man accused of killing his girlfriend’s brother following a violent series of events that began with a domestic disturbance and ended in a fatal shooting and multi-vehicle crash.

According to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded at approximately 2 a.m. on July 25 to a residence in the 11900 block of Duran Canyon in the Camden Park area after a woman called 911 to report that she had fled her home with her 15-month-old daughter and an adult female friend.

The woman told dispatchers that the child’s father had assaulted her and attempted to kidnap her. She also contacted family members to tell them what had happened before deputies arrived.

Investigators said the suspect then stole a pickup truck from a nearby Valero gas station and located the woman. She fled in her vehicle while the suspect chased her in the stolen truck along Veterans Memorial Drive at high speeds.

The pursuit ended when both vehicles crashed in the parking lot of Viva Jalisco Taqueria, located at 12036 Veterans Memorial Drive. The restaurant is in the same shopping center as the Valero where the truck had been stolen.

Authorities said the woman’s vehicle rolled several times, ejecting the driver, her 15-month-old daughter and her female passenger. The suspect’s truck also overturned during the crash.

According to investigators, the suspect climbed from the wreckage, retrieved his child from a nearby ditch and handed the toddler to a bystander who had stopped to help. He then forced the child’s mother away from the crash scene and walked toward a nearby neighborhood.

Witnesses told investigators the suspect was carrying two handguns.

A short time later, the woman’s brother arrived at the scene to check on his sister. Investigators said the suspect encountered him on the sidewalk near the intersection of Camden Parkway and Guadalupe River Drive and shot him.

The victim died at the scene.

After the shooting, the suspect fled and has not been located.

The child’s mother, the 15-month-old girl and the adult female passenger were transported to area hospitals. Investigators said all three survived the crash and are expected to recover from their injuries.

Homicide detectives and Crime Scene Unit investigators processed both the shooting scene and the crash site, interviewing witnesses and reviewing surveillance video as they worked to identify and locate the suspect.

The Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences took custody of the victim’s body for an autopsy.

Anyone with information about the suspect or the investigation is urged to contact the Harris County Sheriff’s Office Homicide Unit at 713-274-9100 or Houston Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS (8477).

The investigation remains active.
