EL PASO COUNTY, Texas – A 17-year-old driver was arrested after deputies say she lost control of a vehicle while performing doughnuts in the parking lot of a newly constructed warehouse complex, causing the SUV to roll over with six passengers inside.

Deputies with the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office responded on July 29 to the 12200 block of Ashtabula Avenue after receiving reports of a vehicle speeding and performing doughnuts in a parking lot.

According to investigators, the driver was operating the vehicle at a high rate of speed while making multiple 360-degree turns when she lost control.

The vehicle struck a curb and rolled over, deputies said.

Investigators determined there were seven people inside the vehicle, including the driver and six passengers.

Despite the rollover, all seven occupants suffered only minor injuries.

Following the investigation, deputies identified 17-year-old Kaely Ochoa as the driver and obtained a warrant for her arrest.

On July 30, Ochoa was transported to the El Paso County Detention Facility, where she was booked on a charge of Reckless Driving.

Her bond was set at $2,500.

The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office said the incident serves as a reminder that reckless driving endangers not only the driver but everyone else on the roadway. Deputies also stressed the importance of not exceeding a vehicle’s intended passenger capacity and ensuring every occupant is properly restrained with a seat belt.

The investigation remains ongoing.
